This winery is very well-known for being the single largest producer of Riesling, typically not their red wines. However in the past decade or so, they’ve become one of the largest wine makers- producing white, rose, sparkling, and red wines with many different styles to choose from!
And they are truly showcasing Washington state as an incredible wine region where grapes can grow beautifully and produce fantastic wines.
Over the years, the winery has received multiple critical acclaims, including 22 “Winery of the Year” honors from Wine & Spirits and 18 “Top 100” Wines by Wine Spectator.
Chateau Ste. Michelle makes this wine in the state of Washington. Additionally, the Chateau Ste. Michelle Cabernet Sauvignon is made in Columbia Valley, United States, highlighting the different aroma and flavors of Washington’s red grapes.
This is Wine Enthusiasts #1 Ranked Best Buy Wine for 2021. And I can understand this ranking, it’s a solid wine sold at a great price. This Chateau Ste. Michelle Cabernet Sauvignon has good Cabernet flavors, however it falls a little too light on the body for me. But again good flavors and very drinkable.
Pouring the wine, I could already tell the blackberry, blackcurrant, and vanilla aromas. However, there’s also a faint smell of dried herbs and spices.
On the palate, the Chateau Ste. Michelle Cabernet Sauvignon tastes like blackberry, blackcurrant, plum, oak, vanilla, cherry, and dark chocolate. I can also taste a hint of spices on my second sip.
This Cabernet Sauvignon has a smooth fruit forward finish. It’s a little lighter than other Cabernet Sauvignons and has medium acidity. And I don’t get much complexity in this wine, nor did I expect it. So overall, this wine is well-balanced and just an easy drinking wine that has a great value for the price.
The Chateau Ste. Michelle Cabernet Sauvignon is available in almost any wine store, such as Total Wine, Bevmo, and more. Its retail price is typically around $15 – $18.
Yes, the Chateau Ste. Michelle Cabernet Sauvignon is a good, solid wine at a very affordable price. It was awarded as a #1 Top Best Buy Wine and garnered a total score of 91 points for Wine Enthusiast in 2021.
Although you may get a sweet finish with its ripe fruit, the Chateau Ste. Michelle Cabernet Sauvignon is a dry red wine.
