How Much Are You Really Drinking?

In order to find out how many calories are in a glass of red wine, you need to answer this question first when drinking red wine.

By the way, this is what 5oz looks like…  so if you drink more calculate accordingly.

How Many Calories are in a Glass of Red Wine?

~125 calories

Alcohol is the basic form of calories in red wine. However, you won’t find information about calories printed on a wine bottle like you would grape juice. They have to be measured.

A standard 5-ounce serving of red wine in the U.S. has about ~ 125 calories.

This is considered to be the case for most wines that have a percentage alcohol by volume of between 11 and 15.

So, if you measure and pour this amount into a glass, you might be surprised to find out that you drink way more at home. Five (5) ounces of wine barely makes it one third of a large-rimmed glass.

How Many Calories are in a Bottle?

~635 calories

Typically, a bottle of wine contains 25.4 ounces (750 milliliters) and every ounce of white or red wine houses approximately 25 calories.

Therefore, there are approximately ~ 635 calories in your bottle of wine.

Is a Glass of Red Wine Good for You?

“While moderate wine consumption may have health benefits, excessive alcohol intake can have negative health outcomes.” Healthline

This is important when considering if wine is good for you. Moderate wine consumption is one (1) 4-5oz glass of wine for women and two (2) 4-5oz glasses of wine for men.

So I’ve had many friends and family drink an entire bottle of wine and tell me that “it’s good for me”. Unfortunately, that’s not true. Only moderate consumption may be good for you.
