Kendall Jackson Chardonnay – America’s #1 selling Chardonnay for 30 years and counting!
For a Chardonnay that’s around $10- $15, the Kendall-Jackson Chardonnay is a classic example of an affordable California Chardonnay. It’s fruit-forward, concentrated, and creamy. And it has great tropical fruit flavors that balance the butter flavor with acidity.
And its 2020 vintage has also received a 91-point rating from Wine Enthusiast.
Kendall-Jackson was founded in 1982 in Lake County, California (just north of Napa Valley). After a year, they were able to sell a case of their first wine, Vintner’s Reserve Chardonnay, and won the first-ever Platinum Award for an American Chardonnay at The American Wine Competition.
Additionally, the Kendall-Jackson Winery won the 2017 American Winery of the Year by Wine Enthusiast Wine Stars Awards.
The Kendall-Jackson Chardonnay has the classic KJ name running across a fall leaf. The design is minimalistic which only includes the brand’s logo and the name of the wine. In the glass, the wine is medium lemon color.
This wine has a clean and intense aroma. It has vanilla, oak, and butter notes. And I can smell the fruit flavors of green apple, peach cream, pear, pineapple, and dash of honey.
The taste of this wine is pretty straightforward. At first, I get a buttery flavor along with some hints of vanilla and oak. Then, I also get the pineapple, peach cobbler, baked apple pie, pear, and honey.
The Kendall-Jackson is medium to full-bodied. Because of its citrus taste, it brings a refreshing acidity to it which also adds to the approachable tropical fruit flavors. It has a good balance and a creamy finish that most Chardonnay lovers can enjoy.
The Kendall-Jackson Chardonnay is available in many wine retail stores including Safeway, Costco, Target, Walmart, Bevmo, Total Wine, Vivino, Drizly, and more. Its price is under ~$20 depending on where you purchase it.
Currently on Vivino, it costs $11.95. And the best price we found was at Costco for $9.89.
Yes, especially if you enjoy California Chardonnays. Because the Kendall-Jackson Chardonnay is a good wine that has balanced acidity and a creamy texture. It has rich tropical flavors that are partnered with citrus fruits that create its complex flavors.
Throughout the years Kendall-Jackson Chardonnay has received many 90+-point ratings from many wine enthusiasts, critics, and reviewers. Some of these are Wine Enthusiast, Wine Advocate, and Wine.com. Check out our rating above.
The Kendall-Jackson Chardonnay has little sweetness at the front of the palate thanks to the tropical fruits, honey, and vanilla. However, this wine is a dry wine that has crisp, balanced flavors, with a buttery and vanilla finish.
